Walnut Hill Breaks Ground For New Arts Center

May 08, 2015

On Friday May 8, 2015, the student body of Walnut Hill School for the Arts joined Head of School Antonio Viva, the Board of Trustees, faculty and guests to officially break ground on a multi-purpose performance space called Studio 5. This will be the first building on Walnut Hill’s 30-acre campus built specifically for the arts. The campus is located within easy walking distance of Natick Center.

Construction is expected to proceed over the next 12 months, when Walnut HIll will complete the final stage of its Capital Campaign that will secure funding for the new facility.

After students spontaneously performed Walnut Hill’s school song, Viva told the assembled crowd the new facility will “announce the presence of a school for the arts on Highland Street.”The two-story Studio 5 will include a scene shop, a dance studio, and a state-of-the-art multipurpose performance space. It marks the beginning of phase one of the School’s Campus Master Plan. The building was designed by designLAB Architects of Boston.

“We are on our way to something fabulous,” said Board of Trustees President Elizabeth McClendon, who spoke directly to the students. “Not only will it give us more performance space, but we also get to see more of you!”
