Natick selectmen support funding for Cultural District

June 15, 2015

Selectmen have approved spending $74,000 from the current year’s budget to support efforts to enhance the downtown cultural district.

The funding, which would come via a transfer from a benefits budget, still needs Finance Committee approval.

“This is a very good investment for which we’ll get far more back than what we’re investing,” Town Administrator Martha White said.

White said a thriving cultural center sparks economic development, enhances the experience for visitors and increases quality of life for residents. White said she believes recent interest by developers in several downtown properties is due at least in part to efforts to enhance cultural activities in Natick Center.
